The tension in animation
Marcus Ottosson, the CEO and founder of Ragdoll Dynamics creators Imbalance, discusses an eternal challenge facing animators
I saw Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio the other day, but had low expectations. There I hasn’t been much good stuff out of the film industry since COV ID, so what are the odds of a Netflix production creating good animation?
But to my pleasa nt surprise, I spot ted a g reat use of something I’d love to see more of: contacts. That is, characters interacting with both each other and their environment. They could do that because they were, in fact, real! Since it was created with stop motion, when two characters come into contact, they are actually in contact with one a nother, and it shows.
