Iberia’s €6bn investment
IN A presentation from Madrid on June 18, attended by Airliner World, Marco Sansavini, Iberia’s chairman and CEO, announced a sweeping €6bn investment in the airline’s future, of which €4.2bn will be spent on new aircraft.
The growth strategy for the airline, which currently operates 45 long-haul aircraft comprising three Airbus A321XLRs, 20 A330s and 22 A350900s, will increase this number to 70. The new aircraft will include the delivery of nine A350-900s and five A321XLRs by 2030, with the latter fleet dedicated to the American market. The remaining 11 aircraft, likely but unconfirmed as coming from IAG’s pool of recently ordered A330900s, are to be delivered from 2030 onwards. Concurrently, it is looking to update the short-haul fleet with the addition of two A320neos and a pair of A321neos in 2026-2027, with 85% of the fleet expected to be neo-powered by 2028.
