EASYJET WILL re-open its base at Newcastle Airport in March next year with three aircraft. The airline already offers eight routes from the Tyneside gateway to Alicante, Amsterdam, Belfast, Bristol, Geneva, Malaga, Palma de Mallorca and Paris. Kenton Jarvis, easyJet CEO, said: “This not only consolidates our position as the UK’s largest leisure airline but will create many skilled jobs and provide critical connectivity for the region, playing an important role in enabling vital economic growth for the UK.” The airline opened its Birmingham base last year, and re-opened Southend in March; the addition of Newcastle will increase its number of UK bases to 11. So far this year, the airline has already added 11 aircraft to its UK fleet.
