Zurich goes quiet
FLUGHAFEN ZURICH, which operates Zurich Airport, has announced it will introduce a new noise classification by 2027. This will make night flying more expensive and adjust the landing fees for the aircraft with the highest noise impact. The Swiss Federal Office of Civil Aviation, which approved the change, said that the airport aimed to reduce the number of late departures and create an incentive for airlines to upgrade their fleets to quieter aircraft. Meanwhile, the airport has also begun implementing its new ‘silent airport’ concept by cutting public announcements made in French. Now, announcements will only be made in German and English, the two most used languages at the facility. Zurich Airport said that the new concept would enhance passengers’ journeys by creating a more relaxing and comfortable environment. However, French-speaking customers will still be able to access information in their preferred language through digital solutions.
