ISRAEL AEROSPACE Industries (IAI) has successfully completed a test loading of a Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 engine into its Boeing 777-300ERSF converted freighter. The Dreamliner powerplant was loaded via the freighter’s main deck cargo door, and positioned internally with the Collins Aerospace cargo-loading system. The state-owned manufacturer said the trial expanded “the airlift capabilities of the IAI 777-300ERSF aircraft, providing customers with an innovative solution for transporting various engine types and sizes of cargo” such as the General Electric GE90, Trent 700 and Trent 1000. The ability to transport large engines is a selling point for widebody freighters, and with the Trent 1000 having a 2.8m diameter and 4.7m length, the test highlights greater capacity for IAI converted aircraft.
