ON SEPTEMBER 1, Wizz Air will suspend its Wizz Air Abu Dhabi operation, the airline it formed in 2019 with local partner, Abu Dhabi Developmental Holding Company. In a statement the airline said it has “faced increasing operational challenges over the past year” which include engine reliability constraints, geopolitical volatility and regulatory barriers. “These factors have significantly impacted the viability of Wizz Air’s ultra-low-cost model in the region and its ability to deliver profitability in line with its core European operations.” Instead, the airline “will intensify its focus on its core Central and Eastern European markets, as well as select Western European countries.” József Váradi, CEO of Wizz Air, said: “While this was a difficult decision, it is the right one given the circumstances.”
