Farmhouse style is celebrated

For its down to earth and relaxed take on domestic spaces. But not to be underestimated, farmhouses can get dressed up to the nines as well. In fact, elegant farmhouses offer touches of whimsy and allusions to Old World romance in their décor choices. And this abode in the small town of Goshen, Indiana blends together all these looks and more to create a unique transitional style home. Principal designer Shalmai Keim of Shalmai Interior Design Studio expertly wove together Old World European notes with a modern, glam take on cottage style, along with some rustic touches, to craft an elevated farmhouse.

HOME IMPROVEMENT

Originally, the homeowners reached out to Shalmai, aiming to complete a smaller scale remodel. They wanted to update their home, but they weren’t sure where to start. “They wanted to start with the floor and then maybe we’d work our way to making the kitchen a bit more functional,” Shalmai says. “But quickly it snowballed into a full remodel. We were pulling out flooring in the kitchen and then we redid the primary bathroom, guest bathroom, and the laundry room.” After meeting with Shalmai and hearing her ideas, the couple fell in love with her designs and felt empowered to undertake all their dream renovations at once.
