Sold for a record $9000 (£7200) in a March 25 sale held by Addison & Sarova (20% buyer’s premium) of Macon, Georgia, was an early best-seller in the children’s book market: the 1805 first of The Comic Adventures of Old Mother Hubbard and her Dog by Sarah Catherine Martin.
In a fine but now broken early 20th century binding of green morocco gilt which has the original, if soiled, browned and discreetly repaired wrappers bound in, it was complete with 15 engraved and coloured plates.
