A 600-lot sale devoted to Asian art held by Tremont auctions in Newton, Massachusetts, on April 23 will include this 4ft (1.2m) high vase made in the late 19th century.
It is decorated with white slip animals, flowers and pagodas on a dark blue ground. The vase has passed down by descent through the family of the American banker Morris Ketchum Jesup (1830-1908), who was president of the American Museum of Natural History in New York. It was kept at Jesup’s summer home, Belvoir Terrace, in Lenox, Massachusetts.
