Sporting guns
An unusual inclusion among the sporting guns at Thomas Del Mar on June 28 was this single-trigger doublebarrelled percussion lock by Henri Lepage, made for King Louis Philippe of France in 1842. Lock, hammers and butt plate were all intricately chiselled with vine leaf patterns and inscriptions. It sold for £7000.
Sporting guns are a little different from other areas of the arms and armour market in that many that are well over 100 years old are still in use today.
