A trademark bronze sculpture by Lynn Chadwick (1914-2003) was the best-seller at a Modern and Contemporary Art & Design auction held by Chorley’s (20% buyer’s premium) at Prinknash Abbey Park in Gloucestershire.
The 7in (18.5cm) Maquette V: Walking Woman, 1984, with distinctive ‘triangle’ head and trained dress, was cast by Pangolin editions at their foundry in nearby Chalford and was purchased soon after for £2300 by the vendor from an exhibition at Beaux Arts in Bath.
Offered with the original receipt, the sculpture drew keen bidding against a £10,000-15,000 guide and was knocked down to a private British collector for £22,000.
