Silver dealer Michael Baggott is appealing to the trade to help in the documentation of antique ivory objects after the proposed legislation becomes law.
Writing in this week’s Letters (see page 47), Baggott proposes to personally compile a data base of items discarded or defaced as a result of rule changes while pledging to coor dinate a scheme to store unwanted ivory objects.
Baggott, a vocal critic of the government’s plans to restrict sales of ivory, also asks dealers and auctioneers to record the responses received when apply ing to sell items under the ‘outstanding artistic, cultural or historic value’ exemption.
