A demi-parure of mid-18th century Swedish gold jewellery offered by Brightwells (22% buyer’s premium) in Leominster on July 25 was accompanied by a painted portrait miniature of the original owner wearing the set. The miniature, although uninscribed, was dated 1845.
Although not so easily recognised as Scandinavian Modernist, Swedish jewellery of this period is quite distinctive: this fancy link necklace with central pierced and engraved plaque, brooch and ear pendants being quite typical examples. Doubling the mid estimate, it sold in the room for £1050.
