Rediscovered Phélypeaux bronze brings €2.4m in Paris

A rare early 17th century bronze bust of a French statesman discovered in a country house has sold for €2.4m (£2.07m) hammer at the Drouot auction centre in Paris, writes Anne Crane.

The 2ft 10in (88cm) high bust portrays Paul Phélypeaux de Pontchartrain (1569-1621), a French minister during the French Wars of Religion credited with negotiating the Treaty of Loudun in 1616.
