GENEROUS people of Mid Argyll have boosted a cancer charity’s funds in memory of a much-loved local woman.
A collection tin in the Argyll Book Centre was put there to collect the five pence carrier bag charges. But customers donated £245 since September 2015, shortly after the passing of Rona MacPhail who managed the bookshop for many years. ‘It’s quite amazing, really,’ said current shop manager Eli Pickering. ‘The year before, when the tin was just sitting there with no-one’s name against it, we raised £10 in the year. After we decided to donate the money to the Beatson Cancer Charity in Rona’s name, the donations shot up. Thanks go to all our generous customers.’
