A NEW initiative has been launched aimed at levelling the playing field for disabled candidates in the 2017 Scottish local authority elections.
The £200,000 Access to Elected Office Fund, supported by the Scottish Government, will be delivered by Inclusion Scotland. The pilot project will help meet extra costs incurred by disabled candidates for transport, interpreters, communication support and any other access requirements a disabled person may have.
The fund will be available to all disabled candidates who will incur extra costs, regardless of political affiliation, geographi cal location or the nature of their impairment.
