Bakers wanted to avert coffee calamity

TO BE honest, the promise of some delicious home baking is one of the main reasons to go along to coffee mornings.

Yes, the urge to support good causes is there, but what people really love is a light Victoria sponge with fresh cream. But this sweet charity treat could be in short supply for one fundraising event this weekend.

The annual Red Cross Week coffee morning is set to be held in Lochgilphead tomorrow, Saturday May 6, but organisers fear that baking donations will be thin on the ground as a number of events compete for the attentions of Mid Argyll’s master bakers.
