SHINTY is at the centre of a new project aimed at jogging the memories of former players and supporters.
The Sports Heritage Scotland project, launched at Hampden Park on Friday March 31, will deliver a nationwide, community-based sports reminiscence project for vulnerable people. The purpose of the project is to aid people living with dementia, and other forms of memory loss, loneliness or isolation, by collating and sharing old photographs of certain sports in an attempt to reignite some happy old memories. The project will also, more indirectly, help to preserve and manage the sport’s heritage and documented history.
In the next two years, Sports Heritage Scotland will set up a network of more than 100 volunteers to establish a minimum of 30 reminiscence groups for shinty, golf, rugby, and cricket.
