Dougarie owner dies aged 88

The man who ran Dougarie Estate for the last 35 years has passed away. Stephen Gibbs OBE died peacefully at his home on Sunday.

He was 88. A statement from the Gibbs family said: ‘It is with great sadness that we inform you that Stephen Gibbs died on Sunday morning (November 12) at home. A service of thanksgiving will be held at 11.45am, Monday November 27 at Shiskine Church.’

Stephen Cokayne Gibbs was born on 18 July 1929, the son of Sir Geoffrey Cokayne Gibbs and Helen Margaret Leslie. He was educated at Eton College, Windsor and gained the rank of lieutenant in 1948 in the King’s Royal Rifle Corps. He later reached the rank of major in 1960 in the QVR (Territorial Army).
