Sir,

No – not the new theme song of the North Ayrshire Council (NAC) planning committee, but perhaps an indication of the attitude of our elected representatives towards the proposed developments on Holy Isle.

Followers of the NAC website will have noted, with surprise, that the issue has never been discussed by the planning committee and wondered how our councillors have managed to avoid their responsibilities in this matter.

The answer lies in the ‘scheme of delegation – planning’ which was approved by the full council on April 1, 2015 (an appropriate date, you may think). The effect of this is to delegate virtually all planning decisions to officers of NAC, who are not directly answerable to the electorate for their decisions.
