Eilidh Doyle: strong start to 2016
DESPITE being edged into second place here, Eilidh Doyle is upbeat about her start to 2016 and believes she has a shot at an Olympic gold in what she says is an open event this season.
“In 2014 you had Kaliese Spencer out on her own, [Zuzana] Hejnova last year,” said Doyle, who has finished fifth and sixth respectively at the last two editions of the championships. “But they’re not in the same form this year. Different people are winning Diamond Leagues this year. So I think it’s anybody’s.”
The European champion scored a win in the Doha Diamond League in early May and preceded Birmingham with a third in Rome last week.
“The last few races I’ve been up there with the best,” she said. “I think my first race in Doha caught a lot of people by surprise, including my coach. I think I’ve always had it in me but just never got it out.”
