THE three area associations of England have asked for feedback via an online survey on how they should be funded in future.
Northern Athletics, Midland Counties Athletic Association and South of England Athletic Association are deciding how they can financially continue to provide competition for their regions.
A joint statement from the area associations read in part: “Area events are increasing, confirming their popularity, but they do need the support of England Athletics with a realistic contribution through the registration fees paid by the athletes that will make grassroots competition successful and sustainable.”
The associations are keen to hear from athletes and clubs in order to present a case to ensure grassroots competition is successful and sustainable in the long term.
According to England Athletics, it has in recent years invested £150,000 per annum in grants to the area competition providers, but this will be reviewed at the start of the next four-year cycle of Sport England funding in 2017.
