TIGHT SHIP
Aurora Expeditions has launched its first custom-made, state-of-the-art, Arctic-exploring cruise ship. The company has been a pioneer in small-group polar voyages for 28 years but the new ship — named after company owner Greg Mortimer — is the first to use the patented Ulstein X-BOW technology, which provides more stability while reducing fuel consumption and air emissions. In addition, the virtual anchoring system means the sea floor is left undisturbed. Inside, the cabins would not look out of place in a luxury hotel. All are sea-facing and feature en-suite bathrooms while 80 per cent have private balconies.
