1 You have more brains than you think
Your brain is made up of three sections: the hindbrain (rhombencephalon), midbrain (mesencephalon) and forebrain (prosencephalon). Evolutionarily speaking, the hindbrain is the oldest part and controls most basic functions - the bit we share with animals. The midbrain essentially serves as a relay station for information between the spinal cord and the forebrain, which is the most specialised part. Responsible for our higher cognitive functions and emotions, this differentiates humans from other species.
