START A SUMMER CONTAINER
British summers have never been predictable, which makes life difficult when you’re planning what to put in the border. i’m sure i’m not alone in occasionally ending up with a mediocre show of flowers because the plants didn’t get enough warmth or sunlight. this is why containers have never been more valuable for gardeners. they enable you to get plants established ahead of those destined for the open ground and, more importantly, you can place them where they’ll receive maximum sunlight and shelter or dappled shade, depending on what you plant. Although summer still seems a long way off, now is the time to start planning what you’re going to put in your containers.
