American Miniaturist  |  FREE Sample Issue
Back in the day, everything I made in miniature was only seen by me and maybe my father. I never even shared with friends. I created only to relax and enjoy my own ‘little’ world. Then social media brought our community closer from all corners of the globe. But I wasn’t so sure about being a part of it. I knew if I started sharing there it may become more about what everyone thought than about expressing myself in a pure free sort of way. But I took the plunge and began sharing with the intent to inspire others.
One photo can invite someone into our fantastic miniature community! I still check in with myself to be sure I am still creating for myself first. I witness other artists basing their success on the number of ‘likes’ they get. That’s a red flag that the purity of creating might be compromised. If you find you are basing the level of your creative abilities on social media feedback, please stop and take time to create just for you. Maybe have one private project that you wait to share on social media only months after completion. Be healthy and happy and keep creating no matter what your skill level. Each of us has an important place in our miniature community. AM would also love to see your creations!
