LOST Among the Affghans..., sold by W&H Peacock on June 3 for £380, is a tale related to Oswald Fry by ‘John Campbell’, otherwise known as Ferringhee Bacha (the European child) and published by Smith Elder in 1862.
Badly foxed but extremely rare, Lost Among the Affghans... made £380 in a W&H Peacock sale of June 3.
Supposedly found as a baby among the dead left behind after British forces and families were massacred at the end of the Anglo-Afghan War in 1842, he was raised in Afghanistan but later ran away to Persia. There he came into contact with British officials who packed him off to Bombay, and then to England.
