The annual contemporary Art in the Pen fair (above), held at Skipton Auction Mart, was founded during the foot-and-mouth crisis in 2005 by Anthea Rathlin Jones, the then artistic director of The Mart Theatre.
The mart is also home to this theatre, which, on its website, describes itself as the world’s only theatre in a working cattle auction “which sells cows and sheep through the week and is then transformed into a 300-seat venue offering professional theatre including stand-up”. The theatre owns Art in the Pen, which this year is on Saturday and Sunday, August 12-13.
