On an unrelated but more important subject, I am delighted to see the current debate on ivory getting so much coverage in the Gazette, but concerned about the minimal discussion recently about the possible effects of Brexit on the antiques trade.

I realise it is difficult to form any coherent policy when the government is either unwilling or unable to come up with one. But I do hope readers will favour one that encourages the maintenance of the existing open borders for trade with Europe, rather than a return to the nightmare involved in shipping and customs to and from the Continent, which some of us remember existing before we joined the EU.
