MADAM – In response to David Morley on antiques TV shows (ATG No 2278), I have never seen anyone on these TV shows holding a knife to a dealer’s throat to obtain a discount.
Therefore, surely it has to be recognised that even a massive discount is still giving the dealer a profit on the deal, perhaps only a small one with the ‘rip-off’ element negotiated out.
After all, a dealer can always say ‘no’ to such requests and let us remember that if you don’t ask, you don’t get!
