A stall full of blue and white ceramics at last year’s May Field Dog Fairs event in Stamford.
The calm and grassy plain by the River Welland in the middle of the town of Stamford where Field Dog Fairs holds a biannual event was not always so serene.
This three-day antiques and vintage fair is held on Stamford Meadows from Friday to Sunday, May 19-21. From the 13th to the 19th centuries this was called the Bull Meadow, where a poor bull ended its days after being hounded though the town, “its flesh sold at a low rate to the people”, according to a 17th century commentator.
