Coming up next at The Fine Art Society in Edinburgh is the exhibition Between Tides: Scotland’s Working Culture of the Sea.
The show from May 26-June 17 incorporates historic and more modern images and interpretations of the ocean, from the early paintings of Samuel Bough to Will MacLean’s mixed media works of the 1970s and ‘80s.
Among the pieces available at the show is The Harbour, Kirkcudbright by William Stewart MacGeorge (1861-1931), pictured below, an artist known for the narrative paintings he created that were inspired by Galloway’s folklore. The 22in x 2ft 6in (56 x 77cm) oil on canvas is available for £26,000.
