A mid 19th century Dollond 4in telescope, which sold at £12,000 against a £1500-2000 estimate at HRD Auctions of the Isle of Wight on August 3, was mistakenly reported in ATG No 2306 as being by Dolland of London.
Dolland was a later firm of 19th century instruments makers trying to compete with the more famous Dollond.
The vendor of the Dollond instrument at HRD informs us it was a 4in astronomical telescope with star finder sight, spare lens and what appears to be the original case and thus “just about impossible to replicate”.
