Topping the sale at Boulton & Cooper in Malton, near York, on October 25 was this unusual Georgian miniature elbow chair with shell-carved knees and cresting rail. It exceeded expectations of £300-500 to sell at £10,000 (plus 15% buyer’s premium).
Standing 12in (30cm) high, the ‘apprentice piece’ was part of the North York Moors estate of a former collector-dealer.
Despite some condition issues that included breaks to a leg and an arm, it retained its original leather upholstered drop-in seat.
