The contents of a country house near Tetbury yielded many of the better lots in Chorley’s (20% buyer’s premium) sale in Prinknash Abbey on January 30-31 including this garniture of three Pinxton porcelain bough pots.
Painted c.1800 en camaieu in dark green with Georgian buildings, one titled Butterley Hall, two were signed for Sarah Jessop. As well as a talented decorator, she was the wife of William Jessop, the noted civil engineer best known for his work on canals, harbours and the early railways. He was co-founder of the Butterley Iron Works, Derbyshire.
