This pair of ormolu candlesticks by Pierre-Philippe Thomire (1751-1843) will feature in the May 24 auction at Duran Subastas in Madrid.
Having initially trained as a sculptor, Thomire turned to the more lucrative profession of bronze caster and he became the leading Parisian gilt metal manufacturer and gilder of the early 19th century. At the height of his business he employed more than 600 people and his work represents some of the finest examples of the Empire style.
