Red tape had threatened to scupper plans for a triumphant march up the Royal Burgh’s Main Street, but a last-minute outbreak of common sense saw to it that the people got to greet their heroes properly.
Inveraray and District Pipe Band won their first-ever grade one world championship a fortnight earlier and this was the town’s chance to welcome them home with the world trophy - along with the British, European and Scottish silverware already won this season.
