Angling for more young members

LOCHGILPHEAD and District Angling Club wants to see more youngsters coming into the sport.

Archie MacGilp at Fyne Tackle, Argyll Street, Lochgilphead, the place where all local anglers gather, says it saddens him and many other sporting anglers to see that the sport is not attracting youngsters any more.

‘They would rather sit indoors and play video games,’ he said. ‘The fact is this sport is getting older and it is probably our generation to blame for not bringing our sons and daughters fishing: remember women are great anglers and the salmon record is held by a woman to this day.’
