TWO YEARS into a four-year grant scheme, the first real signs of large scale work on Inveraray’s historic buildings have become obvious to the public.
The start of work on four ‘priority buildings’, Arkland, Relief Land, Chamberlain’s House and the Old Temperance Hotel, all under the town’s Conservation Area Regeneration Scheme (CARS), was announced on April 1 by Argyll and Bute Council. Progress since then on the £2 million-plus scheme has been slow - and much of the delay has been put down to bat surveys.
As scaffolding appeared last week at the Town House, and workmen began to remove render from Arkland and Relief Land, a council spokesperson explained: ‘Works at The Town House started in earnest at the end of April 2016.
