HISTORICALLY there have been impressive ships whose names have been preceded by adjectives. Often they have proved sadly misplaced, for example the ‘Mighty’ Hood and the ‘Unsinkable’ Titanic.

One ship, however, that merited her title and bore it proudly for half a century was the paddle steamer Columba, which was ever known as the ‘Majestic Columba’.
