Council under fire over education as special meeting called

COUNCILLORS in Argyll and Bute will hold a special meeting to discuss major issues raised by an education report.

Education in Argyll and Bute came under criticism in a sobering report published last week following an assessment by inspectors from Education Scotland. The report, published on March 21, outlined four out of five key areas in the education service that were ‘weak’ and that there remain significant areas for improvement in how effectively the council achieves ‘positive outcomes’ for its young people. A lack of leadership in the council’s education service was identified by inspectors as a major cause for concern, highlighting in particular the strained relationships between central staff and elected representatives.
