The autum talk of the Arran branch of the Saltire Society took place at the Arran Lodge where two illuminati of Scottish culture, Alexander Moffat and Alan Riach, were the guest speakers.
These are two names that will be very familiar to those who follow Scottish arts and literature. Alexander (Sandy) Moffat is exhead of painting at Glasgow School of Art and author of the painting Poets’ Pub in the Scottish National Portrait Gallery. Alan Riach is a poet and professor of Scottish Literature at Glasgow University and is also convener of the Saltire Society itself.
Both men talked eloquently of different aspects of the general educational neglect of Scottish literature.
