When Angela Fisher’s son Barry, director of the Duke of Edinburgh Award (DofE) in Scotland, asked his mother what she would be doing to support the organisation’s diamond anniversary, she knew she would have no excuse for setting up and completing a suitable challenge.

With the help of her friends who meet up every Tuesday, the group rapidly self-styled themselves as the ‘Diamond Girls’ and set out to walk a combined 60 miles between them, proposing to match their ‘blethering with bootsteps’.
