The ‘big bang’ which gave many residents on Arran a fright last Thursday was caused by a sonic boom.
Community forums and websites went into overdrive with lively discussion when a loud ‘explosion like sound’ was heard across the island last Thursday around 12.40pm.
People told of hearing a disturbing bang from most of the main villages with many reporting that they believed that it was near their village as it was so loud. There were reports from Brodick, Lamlash, Shiskine, Kildonan and Corriecravie and farther afield from Ayrshire and the Kintyre.
