EXXONMOBIL BISLETT GAMES, DIAMOND LEAGUE, OSLO, JUNE 9
AFTER battling for the 200m title in Beijing last summer, the “flying Dutchwoman” Dafne Schippers and Jamaica’s Elaine Thompson will line up for a ‘world championships rematch’ at the Bislett Stadium.
Schippers won gold ahead of Thompson in China – 21.63 to 21.66 – and the field’s two sub-22 second sprinters could challenge Gwen Torrence’s long-standing meeting record of 21.94 from 1994.
Schippers is yet to win at a Diamond League meeting so far this year after finishing as runner-up in Doha (100m), Eugene (200m) and Birmingham (100m), but her 10.83 in Doha was just outside her PB and she ran 22.02 at a wet Hengelo, while Thompson has won in Rabat (100m) and Rome (100m), plus finished third behind Schippers over 200m in Eugene with her 22.16 season’s best.
