1500m

Pole position: Angela Cichocka clocked 4:33.00
SIFAN HASSAN might not have competed had the event been held elsewhere. The Dutchwoman hadn’t trained for three months due to injury and this clearly wasn’t the same athlete who ran a 1:57 last 800m chasing Genzebe Dibaba in the World Championships last year.
The opening 400m and 800m splits of 83.15 and 2:46.05 work out at 5:10 pace, but the race began to come to life 600 metres out. World indoor champion Hassan looked in control as she led on the last lap and passed 1200m in 3:49.52.
However, she could do nothing as Poland’s Angela Cichocka, whom she had beaten into second in the European Indoors last year, sprinted past to win easily in 4:33.00 with a 58-second last lap.
