BUTCHART BURST WINS
SCOTTISH RECORD-HOLDER SURGES AWAY FROM FARRELL AND VERNON
5000m

Andrew Butchart: settles into the early pace alongside Tom Farrell
DESPITE winning in emphatic style, Andrew Butchart admitted he was incredibly nervous before setting out to try to secure his Olympic place.
With the two Olympic standards already to his name, the Scot pulled well clear of the field with four laps to go to run 13:44.00. Winning a close battle for second in the last 200m, Tom Farrell, who also had two standards, put paid to Andy Vernon’s chances of competing in Rio in the 5000m. Vernon, who has been coming back from injury, has only one standard and the absent Olympic champion Mo Farah is certain to be awarded the third spot.
