Elliot Giles: big breakthrough
UNTIL the beginning of last year, Elliot Giles’ PB was just 1:53.24. Now he is the British champion.
However, three summers out through injury and the fact that his old PB was set when he was 17 explains some the improvement. Further, for anyone who had the seen the way he won the England under-23 title the previous weekend, his win over seven-time champion Michael Rimmer wasn’t a massive surprise.
He passed the more experienced campaigner in the home straight to clock 1:48.00, while Rimmer drifted out to third behind Jamie Webb.
