EMANUEL LEVY/COLUMBIA
In his latest book, renowned film professor and critic Emanuel Levy explores the work of five gay film directors: Pedro Almodóvar, Gus Van Sant, John Waters, Terence Davies and Todd Haynes. Supplemented by years of studying their films, and interviewing the men, Levy considers how (and if) gay themes manifest in their respective films, particularly since most men came of age with gay liberation, and began their careers in a world ready to watch gay characters. By his own admission, Levy has stayed away from looking at the influence of their private lives, but nevertheless this is a good companion piece for fans.
