I f you’re part of the queer community in Britain, you’d have to have been living under a rock to not notice the recent ramping up of attacks against the transgender community in the press. From the lobbying to see trans women excluded from competing against other sportswomen, to Munroe Bergdorf’s recent cancelled appointment as the NSPCC’s first trans ambassador, the bigots with keyboards are out in force.
But occasionally, among all the anti-trans rhetoric, there are moments to celebrate. One of these came during the January gloom when YouTube comedy gamer Harry Brewis — whose channel Hbomberguy has more than 440,000 subscribers — raised an astonishing $330,000 (£258,000) for British charity Mermaids, which supports gender diverse and trans children.
